Perfectly cleaning titanium
Hi,
I am needing to clean titainium bolts before I anodize them. I am wondering how to do this, there is a product called multi etch but I believe that is only avalible in the US. Some of the bolts have been anodized before I would need to etch that off.
i have also read sulfuric acid could be used when dilute.
If anyone has any methods, help would be much appreciated.
Thanks BenRegards Ben

If any parts have been previously anodised you will need to strip the anodising off before reanodising. On aluminium parts this can be done by a brief soaking in sodium hydroxide. I don't know about titanium but assume the same.
You can read up on this with a google search, bucket loads of info out there and a lot of good sites.
You can pre-etch aluminium with a Na-OH step as well, and often a desmut step is used in this case but not always.
Best of luck.
