    Hi,

I really like the shape, the base looks extremely good, the idea is brilliant, and ... well I just like it.

How heavy is it? Have you put it on castors?

It would probably look better if it didn't say "Perspex" on the sides

Seriously, it looks rather nice. How big is it?
Did you design it to be a functional light for actually lighting up an area or is it just decorative? The reason I ask is if its just decorative, Jaycar Electronics have some interesting LED strips which could be incorporateded into a decorative lamp. You might be able to get some interesting effects by having coloured light shining through the perspex from the edge. Like a lot of car instrument lights. Speedo pointers. I'm not quite sure how its done but might be worth having a play with if you are looking for unique ideas.

    Thanks for the replys guys.
1st of all it only says perspex on the protective sheet on the perspex itself.
No the lamp doesnt have casters i made four identical brass legs on a lathe with no gauge...which wasn't too bad i only had to remake one leg. The lamp with the base stands at 400mm-ish tall, and weighs no more then 5kg, i dont have the lamp with me at this moment in time so i cant get exact measurement.
The school has run out of adapters for lighting up the lamp, so you could say it is decorative, but i plan to wire up a cluster of LED's

Yes, I know, I was just having a joke. Have you ever tried to get that protective sheet off an old bit of perspex? We had some at work that was years old that had the brown coloured protector sheet on it. Boy, what a job.
Do you know you can bend perspex quite easily with a bit of heat? If you have access to a good heat gun and a sheet metal bender . Or if not a bender, some lengths of straight angle held in a vice. best if all the mill scale has been removed from the angle (if its steel. Aluminium is not a problem. You could even use some straight bits of wood clamped together). You want the edges as clean and smooth as possible so that they don't mark the plastic.Clamp where you want to bend and then heat with the heat gun along the bend line. you will feel when its starting to soften and then you can slowly bend it. Have a practice with some scrap first.
I didn't realise that you were in England until your second post.
Also I'm assuming you are a student? If so, good on you for having a go. Too many kids these days just want to sit on their backsides and watch TV (my own included)

Well its too late to change the design...but it doesn't mean i cant experiment with bending plastic, Good idea i might be able to use it in my next years project. Apparently the next years project is quite open so i might pitch the idea of making a katana lol. Yes i am a student.... and i do want to sit on my backside and watch tv...but i have too much love for metalwork, not found of the wood to be honest haha.

Edit: Got some more pics =D
