    Default Quick Change Toolpost

Have been using a Dickson quick change type toolpost on my Sheraton Conquest (think geared head Hercus) lathe. have found the tool holder twists out of the base when parting. Have eventually decised to return it to the supplier for a credit.

Searching the web for hints on a new QC tool post it seems the best value for money will be to go to an AXA type toolpost as per Aloris, Dorian etc in USA.

There is a psiton type and a wedge type (twice the price) and it looks worth the extra for the wedge type.

    What are other members thoughts/experiences?

Also, I have not seen this type for sale in Oz. US sites like Travers and Enco have them(a Pase II chinese version) for $169US which is better than local pricing anyway.

Interested in other users feedback on sourcing this sort of gear from the US.

    Happy New Year - Steve

If you look at my post 20th January 2007 the details and pics of the Chinese multi tool post holder is the centre one in the pic.It is mirror finished and the 360 degree is held by a large nut on a strong shaft and the locking bar holds the tool holder,in it I am rapt.Having said that rhe other types have their uses also it is only a brief change over.
I believe it to be identical with Hare and Forbes Catalogue Metal Working page no 37 listed as QA140 extra tool post under that on the page.

This double of what I paid at the time so look carefully at buying where you can to improve the price.I use mine on a Hercus, the Tool Post Heights covered are shown as well.

    Have success Peter

The QA140 from H&F I beleive is the BXA or 200 series size. I am after the AXA/100 series which they don't seem to stock.

Also - H&F price of $275 makes US look very attractive.
