Thread: Restorer's Barn, Castlemaine

Antique shops don't impress me that much, but this place was a whole new ball game.

My cousin dropped me off at The Restorer's Barn, 129-135 Moyston Street, Castlemaine, and said he'd be back in 45 minutes.

This place is huge, several shops wide and the back wall far out of sight. From the instant of walking in off the street onto the well seasoned timber floor, by eyes popped out of my head. This place is more like a museum.

For the engineer.

Hundreds of drill bits, taps and dies, tinsnips, shears, files and rasps, grease guns, grinding wheels, pliers, spanners, sockets, vices, you name it, it will be there.

For the carpenter.

Stanley planes by the hundreds ranging in size from hand held to long based, all in really great condition. Chisels, saw blades, clamps, saws, hammers, hinges, brackets, etc etc.

For the home maker.

Antique cedar chests of drawers, cutlery, crockery, light fittings, plumbing fittings, old fashioned light switches and power points, leather chairs, mirrors, paintings and posters.

The was so much stuff there I couldn't take it all in. Up the back is an old 1936 Chev ute apparently used in the Sullivans.

I spent an hour looking and was fastinated by all the antique aeroplanes hanging overhead, old pedal cars, old oil industry signs, etc etc.

You have to go there........I didn't leave empty handed and bought a really nice 4" Dawn vice for $80. Even the handle was straight.

I'll be going back when I refill my wallet.
