We have a 150mm thick floor at work. We have a 1.2m swing X 4m BC lathe that just sits on the floor, it has jacking screws every 200mm down both sides. It was leveled when it was installed and hasn't been touched since. We also have a a 6M long mill that is just bolted to the floor and that hasn't moved. we also have some machines that have purpose built foundations. these include 2 lathes that sit on about 600mm of concrete a vertical borer on about 700mm of concrete. We also have a big 20ish ton CNC mill that is on a 4M X 2.5M x 1.2M thick foundation. I would think that 200mm of concrete for your grinder would be ok, if that's what you are planning. There are some blokes on PM who could give you some pretty sound advice to.

It is a pity but the 10 footer is going to be recycled into chinese made consumer goods... The 15 footer is also going overseas but it is going home for a new life...
Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

I tried my best to stop this happening. Tried to negotiate a very delayed pick up for the 10 footer as I am away for the next 6 weeks after next week but unfortunately that is not possible. The scrappie will sell it but needs to know by tomorrow as that is when he is scheluded to pick it up. Anyone ??
The 16 footer is going to England. The buyer is flying out to arrange its dismantling and transport back. By all reports he was over the moon about the price!!
If anyone is interested in the 10 footer and wants to discuss can call me on 0427921258
Cheers

I'd love to have it but right at the moment it's not possible. The freight would kill me. What does it mass and what are the dimensions though - I *might* know someone who could warehouse it.
FWIW I'm prepared to donate $100 to any purchaser just to help a little provided it's going to be at minimum stored properly (ie not left in the weather to rust away). We're going to need machines like this.

Can't help with storage but will join the "machine aid" relief effort.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I will talk to the scrappie tomorrow and see if I can arrange something. He is an old fitter and turner so he has some compassion for the situation and may consider storing it for me till I can pick it up later. Will let everyone know what happens.
Cheers

I'll throw some in the kitty too. What's the scrappie looking for it, not hard to give him a few multiples of his bid!

Doesn't work like that. Selling price has no necessary relationship to buying price.
The selling price is what he says it is.
Very good friend of mine was a scrap dealer. I got a lot of stuff (and valuable live auction bidding lessons) from him.
"Fair" price is what he can sell it as scrap for so he's not making a loss of profit on the deal. Anything over that is a bonus for him, under and he's doing us all a favour. Not uncommon for these blokes to do that if approached the right way.
A machine like this going to somewhere like Mark's or Richard's or anyone else with acreage and 3 phase power on the big island is about the best we can hope for. Even if I had the free space at the moment it'd be idiotic to freight a machine like that to Tasmania. At least on the big island such a machine is at least potentially accessible by a fair group of people. Not down here, freight is a killer.
If it doesn't come off, at least Mark gave it his best shot.
