Jeez, what can't it grind. Fantastic, thanks for showing the various shapes that can be done. Did you get all the bits to be able to do them?

Wow. I guess that's got most things covered! What a versatile machine. I'd hate to be the one that has to pay for new spindle bearings in that! Given the amount of flaking still seen on the table, I assume it's all probably pristine.

I would imagine they would be plain bearings, self adjusting (on the fly) to maintain the required oil film, much like the Blohm's spindle?

They will be angular contact for sure.. For plain bearings they need a constant oil supply.. Bit hard to supply that to a bearing whose orientation can go in all directions..

Bit dodgy this one, that has me worried. I've hosed it down, 3 times, with a Houghton Rust Veto product. 80 kg's of desiccant bags, and tarped it within the container so any moisture that gets in at least hits the floor.
Normally I'd sea bag it. That's a sealed bag that is vacuumed out and sealed. Extremely hard to justify on a machine that sold for $999. That base is over 11m long. The container is only 12m long. A sea bag for that would go $3k+

I did a bit of research into VCI papers. (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors). Apparently they give off a vapour, that's good. Regardless, the widest one I could find was only 2 metres wide. That's not wide enough to drape across the machine, and at $451 for a 100m roll, I omitted it in lieu of black builders film you get at Bunnies.

    Regards Phil.

The container ended up going a bit north of 26T.

I might have to abandon metal working, and get back in touch with my wood brothers. I took a nail gun, bench saw etc up with me.

My policy. You know that saying about punching your way out of a wet paper bag. I do the same with containers. I cut the bearer's net width of the container. Normally about 2410mm. Then cut blocks between the machine element, and the container wall. Works great down near the floor. On an open top, I need to get the cross rails back in as I tend to spring the box.

Looks very good Phil, I know that anti-rust stuff you sprayed on mine sticks like anything..

I have not done much to mine yet, had other things to sort out first.. I was going to reuse that oil Phil sent up out of the big grinder and I ran it through a 10 micron filter... I had a look at the oil from the bottom of the drum that went through the filter... It was still black....

Going to put a new drum of oil in it now.. Looking for a cup CBN wheel.... Not sure what grit to get... Thinking 150...

Phil and Mark said after it was in the shed I would be happy I bought it... Well... I am happy I bought it.. Also now I am used to it's size, it no longer looks big.... I did end up getting a new counterweight chain and installing it.. It was just an off the shelf item...

I need to make up some decent skates so once the foundation is poured, I can roll it into position..

I have put power to it and at least the spindle and up/down works... As it has no oil in it I cannot run the hydraulic gear pump yet... Not sure if I mentioned it but I did pull one of the oil filters and it was clean as a whistle... It has second filter that I think filters the oil to the table ways, it is a bit more complicated to check, but I will get there eventually..

A zap of electricity and some oil and it is alive......

It has a total stroke length of 12 feet... Rack driven by a hydraulic ram.. Oil lube to the table ways is plentiful and adjustable, it will produce a bow wave and overflow the oil onto the ground if you are not careful. Hydraulic speeds are quite easily controllable... Have some video to sort out later...

Are the super powers a bit slow on the weekend Stuart?

The table has a rack and the bed has a rack, the hydraulic ram rod is connected to a spur gear and fits in between...

So the hydraulic ram stroke is only about 6 feet, but the table travels 12 feet...

That looks real sweet, I'm amazed that it all runs by a hydraulic ram. You should sack the sparky though, don't think OH&S would like it.
