Source of brass solid round in Sydney
Hey guys, I realised that I bought the wrong size brass rounds for a part of a project, and now need to buy just a short length, say 150 mm of 30 mm(+) round. Ebay is turning up nothing so I'm now at a bit of a loss as to where I'll get this from. Any suggestions?

You could try this company who have a dealer in Sydney
George White | Australia's leading stockist & distributor of non-ferrous metals - Online Catalogue
I contacted them a few years ago for some brass tubing for a windmill pump, and they put me onto a Qld brass dealer who had what I wanted.. Welcome to George Weston & Sons

This is one of the few remaining metal suppliers. I have bought brass round in the past. Call them first:
Edcon Steel
3a/9-13 Winbourne Road, Brookvale 2100 (02) 9938 8500 Bodgy

Bought several small pieces of bar from
Brass and Copper
16/14 Stanton Road
Seven Hills 2147

you seem to need a small mortgage with the price of copper nowadays, where ever you go.

Excellent, thanks guys. I get my steel from that Edcon store but haven't noticed any brass rounds that size so will check it out next time I'm there. If not sounds like there's a few alternatives to try.

I have found that a visit to my local scrap yard is the most cost efective way to get brass, copper, aluminium or stainless offcuts.
The place I go to (in Bayswater Vic) sell by the kilo which generally works out at a fraction of the price that metal suppliers would cost.
I'm talking about the small scrap dealers who don't mind letting you poke around their yard not Sims or Norstar.
They are also a great place for brass fittings, fasteners, piping, all sorts of things.
Of course if you require a specific alloy you need to go to a supplier because there is generally no indication of the grade of metal you are getting.
Cheers,
Greg.

Challenge Metals, although they go by half a dozen names in the yellow pages.
242 Canturbury Rd Bayswater. Next to the Europe hire car depot on the left when you're heading east.
He used to have tons of stuff lying around but he keeps the yard a bit tidier these days so his range isn't as good as it used to be but still the first place I go when I'm looking for a bit of brass etc.
