    Default Dial gauge point standards

    Hi

I am wondering if the thread used on the point of dial gauges , where different shaped points can be fitted, has been standardized ?

Some of them are 4-48 which is a metric thread I think ?

Not sure about the older makes used, like Mercer or Mahr ?

    Mike

    Hi Mike
Some are 4-48 (imperial) and some are M2.5 I don't know for sure but if it is British or American its probably 4-48, Asian or European it should be M2.5. The threads are very close, M2.5 has a pitch of .45, 4-48 translated to metric is 2.27 dia with a pitch of .53. Not easy to check unless you have a pitch gauge.

Ah ... OK Ewan , it sounds a little complicated seeing as the two you quoted are so close dimensionally ..you learn something every day as you said
