I have an aversion to tapping holes by hand, and for years have been thinking about getting a tapping head, for the 5-10 mm range of thread sizes.
Now looking for advice from anyone who has used a "cheap" H&F head (see below) or has other alternatives to offer. I am not keen to spend double the money for the next step up in quality (J4612 type tapping head from H&F), though I recognise the advantages.

This looks like a copy of the Vertex tapping head. It has no overload clutch to reduce risk of tap breakage, so I expect a fair bit of care would be needed in use.
The reversing speed seems to be the same as the drive speed - not a big issue for me as I don't expect to tap more than 10 holes at any one time.
Another drawback for me is the fixed MT arbor which would need surgery before first use as my Tough drill has no morse taper socket.

Cheers, Bill
