Taylors Lathe Chuck Jaws
I am restoring an ex Education Dept Hercus 9" Mod A lathe which came fitted with a 4 1/2" 3 jaw self centering Taylors Chuck. Does anyone know where I can get internal and external stepped jaws for this chuck? Does anyone have suitable jaws for sale? Please advise.
regards
Eric

Hi Eric,
Looks like you have been lurking for a while!!
I think the only way you will find jaws to fit is by getting really really lucky. If you post the jaw size and scroll pitch you never know.
Otherwise a new chuck may be needed.

Hi Ew
Yes I have been lurking and learning on this forum for quiet some time re metalworking in general and Hercus info. This has proved very useful during the lathe restoration process. Thanks for your comment- I have come to the same conclusion but thought I'd ask. Taylor chucks were sold with only one set of jaws for holding bar. Other jaws were an optional extra and needed to be ordered separately and were expensive. I was lucky to pick up a 6 1/2" Taylor chuck years ago with a full set of jaws but it's just a bit big for the Hercus !! The jaws for the 4 1/2" chuck are 1/2" thick with 4 TPI. Taylor chuck jaws come up on ebay but I have yet t see any for the 4 1/2" chuck. If any turn up I will indeed be lucky to get them. As you suggest, bit the bullet and buy a new one.

HI,
I remember seeing on Mick Moyles (Sydney) website that they have a lot of Chuck Jaws, perhaps they can help. You would probably have to take your Chuck into them to match them up. http://www.moyles.com.au/chuck1.htmlAll The Best steran50 Stewart
