Hi Guys,

Some of you might recall that I found a tin of various bits and pieces recently. (See thread "Scrap Yard Goodies") One of the items in the tin was a threading tool.

This is the tool circled in red.

It is a 55 degree threading tool bit. As it happens I needed one today and this was all that I had. It wasn't until I had used it that I discovered that it was actually a carbide tip. It was brazed onto a piece of 5/16" mild steel bar and obviously ground using a tool and cutter grinder. At 50 rpm it did a very reasonable job of single pointing a 7/16" X 18 tpi thread (7/16" BSF).

Bearing in mind how old the other items in the tin could have been, I find it remarkable that someone hand made this thread cutting tip. The 60 degree counter sink bit, just to the left has also been hand made.
