Another vsd question
I have been contemplating replacing the 50 - 60 year old motor on my so far unused macson surface grinder and adding a vsd.
The Huanyang vsd unit so popular on this forum is listed as 220v.
I know vsd manufacturers generally say a voltage within plus or minus 10 percent is allowable.
Could running the vsd at 10 percent above the nominal voltage cause any complications such as overheating or tripping?
I'm wondering if I'd be better off spending more money to buy a unit that is really meant to run on 240 volts?
There seems to be endless questions that need to be asked and answered before taking the plunge and buying a vsd.
Please answer this one for me.
Mark

Firstly I doubt that a 240V VFD exists. and done;t forget the +/- 10% is almost certainly just a guide.
Here in WA, over the last few weeks I have been seeing 250+V on a regular basis. It doesn't seem to bother the VFDs at all.
If you purchase a quality VFD that hopefully means they use components that can handle greater electrical stresses so if in doubt consider purchasing a quality brand.

The nominal voltage in Australia is 230V +10% -6%.
WA, Qld and ACT still specify 240V. I think. They may have come into line now. But it's only the official voltage level.
Your power supply will fluctuate with changes in the load on the overall system. Hence the +/- % values.
All that aside, a 220V rated unit will be fine for use in Australia. Most, if not all, 220V rated equipment is manufactured to withstand and operate at at higher and lower voltages and will have a similar +/- % rating. Those were the droids I was looking for.
