Warren and Brown Tool / Cutter Grinder
Hi all
I am after some information on this Warren and Brown Tool / Cutter Grinder.
to me it looks like maybe a drill sharpener, however it came with 4 collets 1/4,3/16,5/32, and 3/32 so maybe it is meant for something more specialised?
It is missing the acme thread and handle for the slide, however I don't know what
else is missing.
I would appreciate any info or ideas.
Cheers Peter

It doesn't look like any valve refacer that I have ever seen, what valves would fit into collets that small? Some more detailed pictures may help to identify it.

W&B T&C Grinder?
Certainly not related to either of the two W&B valve refacers that I currently have.
Combustor.Old iron in the Outback, Kimberley WA.

Interesting, but I don't think it is a valve grinder, they typically have a drive to rotate the valve seat against the wheel.
Some type of drill sharpener maybe?

Warren and Brown
Thanks for the replies
I have taken a few more photos which may help.
The four tubes are for indexing the bit to be ground in the tool holder, then the tool holder is transfered to the grinding jig, the tool holder has a cam, with a tapered follower on the jig. The jig pivots left and right and is adjustable in and out in relation to the grinding wheel.
While this could be a drill sharpener, I think that maybe it is for something more obscure.
Setting up a 1/4" drill bit in the indexing tube leaves very little sticking out and then the drill bit doesn't line up with the grinding wheel very well. It may be the incorrect grinding wheel and there may be parts missing.
Any further info would be appreciated
Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter,
I've not been able to come up with anything other than a drill sharpener. But its hard to picture exactly what the motion does without being sure where the pivot point is in relation to he drill point(it looks wrong to me but thats just a guess).
Looking at the blotters on the wheel I would say the wheel was used on something else for a fair amount of time first. It looks like it may have been used on the right hand side? so the corner of the wheel isn't where it "should" be)
I assume that's a wheel dresser to the right of the drill bit in the last picture?

The company still exists although in a different form as Warren & Brown Technologies in Maidstone.
It might be worth contacting them.Tom

Something else I meant to ask. the jig pictured is numbered "64-32" what are the numbers on the other jigs? Might mean something to someone.

The first of Petip's second series of photos shows a cam, which makes me think the device is a drill sharpener. The Drill Doctor has a cam in its internals to provide back rake as the drill bit is rotated.
Something along the lines of this W&B device would be a very good basis for an upmarket home made drill sharpener.
