Williamette Steam Hauler circa 1920
My wife and I drove down to Pemberton last weekend and on the way, stopped at Manjimup and checked out the Heritage and Timber Park. The park features a wondrous kid's playground and a hamlet of timber buildings, representative of the typical structures people dwelled and worked in post WW1. There was a small steam museum and a wood turning shed but unfortunately they were closed. The photos below are of the machine the caught my eye from the highway as we drove into the town. A behemoth.
The protective structure should slow further deterioration but this poor old beast has sat for many a year uncovered. A shame. Dragging 25 tons of Karri from up to a mile away is pretty impressive. When you see early photos of the men and women, the timber and the machines, it was all hard work.

Fantastic pics Bob,
you have managed to capture valve gear that I have never seen before. It is almost walschaerts like except a lot simpler.
I'm going to have to put that place on my 'must visit' list.
Thanks for posting and I really am going to have to 'hang out' with you. You somehow manage to go to all the good places

Phil,
I was just about to hit the delete thread button thinking that posting photos of rusting hulks must be as interesting for most as reading the knitting section of the Women's Weekly. I'm glad you like the Williamette. I did.
