Get well Kev, hospitals are no fun.
I should be in Tindal and Darwin some time in the next few months so I'll try and catch up with you, WW and work-wise. Cheers.

Hi fellow Blokes ,Shaper and shed addicts I'm out of the hospital and convalescing at home .
I'm sporting a new digital governor ( as Oldfraggle puts it) .
A bit sore in the left shoulder region from the implant surgery ,but it will pass .
No more irregular heart beats ( not that I noticed anyway ),the doc reckons its not good.
Nice to receive all the the posts of support , not to mention the phone calls and the visit from oldfraggle while I was "locked up".
Its great to be part of a group who really look out for and support each other .
Thanks and Cheers Kev."Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend ,inside a dog it's too dark to read"

Hi Kev,
Good to hear your out and all is well mate. It must be a relief for not only you, but your wife and family that you are going to be fine from now on.
It was really great to have a chat to you on the phone, and I hope the phone calls and visit from members made your stay a little less boring. Nothing worse than sitting in a hospital bed bored out of your brain.
Just make sure you take note of the doctors orders and don't over do it with your bit of time off, we all know what your like with wanting to get things done when your home, LOL
So it looks like you will have to just give advice on the forum for a while, instead of showing us your work.

Fantastic news Kev
All you have to do now is take it easy. And that's easier said than done...still doable though.

Thanks fellas , Ray that cartoon reminds me , I asked the Doc about welding and if the magnetic interference that you get sometimes with welding machines will affect the pacemaker .
He reckons it can,so I need to be careful, apparently stick welders are worse than MIG .It can fool the pace maker into thinking that it dosen't need to pace the heart because it is running ok.
I suggested that he donate one of the lead aprons that they have in the radiology department . He said that would act as a shield for the pace maker , but he wasn't authorised to make donations of hospital equipment.
mmmm two weeks off work and can't do a bloody thing .

Kev
I believe that is the case, my father has one of those implants and we've been warned that he shouldn't be anywhere near my welders when I'm running them. He also was warned not to stay too long in the air-port scanners.
Good luck and glad to see you back on the board.

Keep asking at different places Kev, like we talked about the Xray people these days standing behind screens, there must be plenty of lead vests sitting in store rooms from past days.
If not do as you said and get your wife to sew one into a jacket for you, do you know any roofers that could give you a bit of second hand lead flashing?

Look after that pump Kev. It's something we all take for granted until .... some of us are lucky enough to get a warning.

Someone like RayG may well correct me, but lead is a shielding material for ionising radiation. Your pacemaker is not sensitive to that, its sensitive to magnetic fields and maybe some speific frequencies in the radio spectrum. It is programmed with an external coil driven by a digital programmer which send a long series of magnetic pulses.
I think you need to ask some more detailed questions!
I doubt very much that microwaves and mobile have any influence on it.
What is likely to mess with its settings would be a DC welder (MIG or TIG), if it accidentally produced a magnetic field in a recognisable pulse sequence. Long odds I would think, but if it happened, it could have consequences....
Go do a bit more research. I don't know how you shield yourself from magnetic pulses, but a lead apron won't be it.
Cheers,
Joe
