An interesting find considering the 2 current threads about the loss of Australian Industry and a nice machine to look at.

Would anyone like to make a guess as to the modern day equivalent replacement value of the machine and tooling?

Hi Dean, probably about 100 years worth of my pension.

    Dean,
The workshop in the video belongs to a good friend of mine and the SIP is in a tent in the backyard because the council will not allow a structure tall enough to house it. He also has many other quality lathes, mills, borers and an EDM machine in his collection. It is in a residential area very close to Anorak Bob. The fellow is old school engineering with a great sense of humor and always a pleasure to visit.
Given the machines are disappearing so is the knowledge of this type of machinist. There is no good preserving the machine if the operator doesn't understand how to use it.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Thanks for your reply Rod. I have watched a few of Bruce's videos and I am planning on watching more. I have been trying to find other YouTubers that are not American. There are some great videos put out by the Yanks, but sometimes I get a bit tired of their attitude given they are way behind the rest of the world when it comes to measurement. Doubleboost is a welcome change.

It was interesting to see Les's machinery.

I particularly like the cabinet. What's the history of it? Who made it? Where can I get one

No idea what they would be worth today new, but they are nearly obsolete machine tools in a first world manufacturing situation where expensive but common CNC machines are possibly capable of an equivalent accuracy... Of course we have the double whammy of de-industrialising hence the second hand prices also reflect that...

    Search for Clickspring on Youtube.
He's building an open frame clock, and his videos exude the same quality as his metalwork craftsmanship.
I believe he's based in the Cairns area, certainly bemoans the lack of ready access to suitable local stock.
