Because he was trying for the "creative" section of the Darwin Awards?

Lessee... right hand holding tension on the belt, left hand on the switch, one leg to keep him off the ground... there's only two choices left to spin the motor and, I dunno 'bout you, but one of them I want to keep as safe as possible!

Apart from the rip fence and lack of blade guard, the most glaring stupidity was having the power switch at the out feed end of the saw where it is inaccessible to the operator in an emergency.

More than likely partly covered by the work during ripping operations as well, so that if you do have a problem and need to stop the saw, you have to clear the work fom the saw (probably single handed) before you can stop the saw.

For all his mucking with the motor, he could have at least relocated the switch to a point accessible to the feed side of the saw.

Just thinking that and I saw your comment. Couldn't agree more.

I was wondering weather when he re-wired the motor he got the wires backwards, reversing the direction the motor runs in?

Starting the motor – OK it is primitive and interesting but I can’t see anything wrong with that. Can you? At least he lowered the blade first.

Cutting the wood – OK he should have removed the rip fence. But it doesn't make it the worst ever.

Blade guard – Plenty of professional woodworkers on the FWW magazine cut wood without one. Don't believe me? Go watch their DVDs and read their books and mags.

So for FWW to say it is the worst ever, I think it is total BS.
It's the most suspenseful I've seen, I kept expecting something bad to happen.

Starting the motor, I expected him to fall. Attaching the belt, I expected something bad to happen to the pliers. I've put belts onto moving pulleys, but not using pliers.

As others at youtube said, no hearing protection, no eye protection, nothing to prevent kickback.

I was pretty amazed recently when I ripped a smallish length (about 900mm) of pinus radiata. The cut closed right up. Without kickback protection, it could have been lifted off the saw and thrown across the shed.

And, he's got no idea that what he does is dangerous, go look at his framing video.

I think its because he'd worked out he'd rather loose a foot than a hand!!

Love the puffed up pride at the end.......or did I misread the body language?? Perhaps it was sheer relief at everything being in tact....this time

Agree. I reckon it was a deliberate attempt at producing the worst video, and it failed, but still mildly amusing. That said, it was ok except for the rip fence being hard up againsed the cross cut. That was dangerous.
Haven’t read the FWW blog, it appears they are just filling some space because they can’t find another how-to dovetail article.

It had to be a joke - right?

Has he managed to con the world, promoted a joke of what someone who only has one brain cell [I'm being generous] would do? He really appears to be quite chuffed with himself or he deserves an Oscar.

If it is real, unfortunately he has bred, what an example - quite incredible.

I've not bothered too much with the Tube stuff on the net before - probably, in the main, a good choice.

    Regards,
    Bob

I agree with you, theres plenty of much more dangerous behavior commonly practiced on new and old table saws that what this guy has done. I did think serious numb skull though, not the sort of thing to show off cause it is sending the message to others that it's a good thing to opperate like this. I wonder what his father would say?

And then of course there's the guy behind the camera who has never seen anyone lose a body part thinking today's his lucky day......'and I got it on video'.
I wonder if he set irt up so his little girl could watch too?
