    Question Powered half-face masks...is there a mid-tier?

I'm considering replacing my powered half-face mask and there seems to be very few options; there's the generic Carbatec one (what I'm using now) for $129, or the CleanSpace2 for $639 , or ... ??

The Carbatec mask is pretty comfortable and gets good airflow, but only filters to P1.

Are there any other options around the $3-400 mark? Does anyone have the CS2 and have some thoughts on it?

It'll be used for sanding and dust extractor "incidents" (READ: not enough bin for the dust), no impact protection needed.

The ideal is a self-contained half-face mask, but I'd consider a belt-mounted split system. Not really interested in full-face.

Yes there are very few options.... I was using the 3M 7500 series until the strap broke and its not sold separately.

I decided to move to the full face 3M 7800/7907 Series - I dont like to wear safety glasses and full face gives an extra protection...

I did once consider battery power system or hosed system but at the end decided to go with the full face.

I've that found un-powered masks get a bit stuffy after a while and I'd be wearing it for up to 3 hours at a time. I'm trying to avoid the bulk of a full face mask and they're even more expensive for a powered one.

Might have to wander down to Carbatec and try on the fancy one

What, how often and where are you sanding?
If it's always in the one location, and you do it often then I would seriously consider a vented 5 sided chamber/enclosure - then you wouldn't have to wear a mask at all.

Timber and MDF, generally up to 2.5m long, regularity varies depending on what we have on order, at my bench at work.

We don't have the space for a dedicated enclosure that size (or any size really)

I also wear it when unloading nested sheets from the CNC, when I'm using the linisher and when the other guys are generating lots of dust, so the filter really has to come with me

I will do my review when I receive my new mask, the 7907, I cant tell the differences between 7907 and 7800 apart from 7907 is one size fits all and 7800 has different sizes. (I call into 3M and they are struggling to tell me the differences as well)

it seems 3M 7000 series works very well for extended time and more comfortable to use as it has 6 straps and 6000 series has 4 straps. some user review on Amazon claims to have used 7000 series all day and not getting too hot compare to 6000 series.

In NZ the best safety gear supplier only supplies the 6000 series (the entry door full face mask - Still a long way to go in term of our H&S), the number of 7000 series sold NZ was 0 according to 3M.

I will do a review when I get my full face mask in mid Nov.
