Default Table saws and kick-back...a timely reminder

I consider myself a safe table saw user. I've had a table saw for 25+ years and have never had a serious safety incident involving it. I always use push sticks or a push block. It is probably the most used tool in my workshop.

But every now and then I think it's good to be reminded of the potential dangers. This video was a good reminder to me:

Remember this video was made to demonstrate the dangers of kickback...

I thought this comment was a good one:

"I'm just about to order one! With it, I'm going to get a complete set of armor, steel gauntlets and a crash helmet !!!! I'm even scared to press the "buy it now" button without me goggles on !"

Kick back is one of the most under rated causes of injuries on many machines and the TS is no different and in some sort cases worse. There is a log of hundreds of WW related injuries somewhere on the web that I trawled though to see what the prevalence of TS kick back was. It turns out that kickback is the cause of about half of all the TS related injuries reported on this log. Many are minor but some are quite serious including major loss of hand and arm function. Losing half a finger or two can be excruciatingly painful doesn't seem quite as bad as suddenly losing the function of a whole arm.
