1st JR in Acrylic
Hi all,
Here is a JR I completed today. After making a few of the cheaper kits I splashed out and bought the kit for this. Slowly making my way up to a Statesman!!!
The pen is sanded down to 12000 using micro mesh and is polished with car polish.
I really enjoyed turning this one and I'm happy with the result.
Cheers.I'm confused??? Oh wait... Maybe I'm not?

Beautiful pen I'm not normally an acrylic fan but I like this one. Well done.

Nice looking pen, well done.
There is a little bit too much going on in the background, it detracts from the pen.

Nice looking pen. Well finished and great fit. great kit and lovely colour
I just wonder whether the bottom is a little bulby in comparison to the top?
I've just got to get the finger out and try one of these acrylics, the colours and swirls are great

Yeah I like the whole 'bulby' look.
I guess it comes down to personal choice. For me, I don't see the design, creativity, individuality or flare in simply turning a square acrylic block into a cylindrical one. I found with this particular kit, that there was very little material to work with on the lid piece as the hole that is drilled through it for the tube is 12.5mm!! Thus, I couldn't really replicate the 'bulge'.
Attached are pictures of previous pens made in the same bulb style. That's just what I like.
I find the acrylic less predictable than timber when turning and sometimes it's possible to drill the hole over size. The effect however, is great.
All of my pens are turned using one ordinary, every day 25 degree 19mm bench chisel. I find that an ultra sharp chisel makes for easy, controlled turning as well as a smooth finish straight of the tool.I'm confused??? Oh wait... Maybe I'm not?
