The pens look quite nice, I especially like the black palm. I think I made a slimline pen out of it but very hard to finish. I think I ended up using heaps of CA. If it was not stabilized would it tend to split/splinter?

A wonderful collection of pens, much work went into them, and yes, Black Palm does finish well.Amos

The palm is a local palm (not black palm) which is showing some promise but it is quite variable in its turning properties and not much usable wood in the base of the palm. Some normal samples hold together well, others splinter badly even with light cuts with a very sharp skew. This sample was stabilized with "Cactus Juice" (I think??) by Matt (mattm82) as a favor after I sent him some palm knife scales. It seems to be a lot more predictable with the turning properties after stabilization. Some of the stabilized samples still have cracks in the blank, so something to work on. I will have to check out a setup to do some stabilizing myself.

I had some Black Palm, and it exhibited the same characteristics of splintering, I also tried stabilising with cactus juice and initially with CA (when I didn't have Cactus Juice) it helps tremendously, still have to be careful in turning. Amos
