3rd Closed end Churchill in Buck Eye Burl
This is my 3rd Closed end Churchill, the other two will be revealed in due time. It is in BucK Eye Burl stabilized and has a DoHickey flower on the cap. Not without hassles in the making and plenty of room for improvement, but I feel satisfied with this one. Now it is up to you for comments and improvements, thanks Amos

That is a great looking pen. Is it just me or does EVERY piece of buckeye burl look incredible? And closed end just means even more of the timber to enjoy!
I'd sell my left arm for some of that stuff... which would make turning it nearly impossible I guess..
Keir"That's impossible. Nobody can give more than 100%. By definition that is the most anyone can give"

lovely pens again ! I only had 2 bits of buckeye in a blank swap, and both were very lightly colored, nice form ! but pretty ordinary from some of the other stuff I have seen posted ,guess its the luck of the draw most times , although I think I have seen it dyed somewhere in my travels.Cheers
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Absolutely first class Amos, go straight to the top man. That is one excellent pen.
You have mastered the closed end section and you have also got the doohickey as well.
I have one piece of the black left and a couple of the lighter buckeyes now what to do with them.

Well done Amos. Did you make the Dohickey yourself from Ed's video, or did you buy it?

The DoHickey from AZ, I didn't realize there was a video on it!! until I went to their site, so it was made without looking at the video! NOW, I will go look and see what i should have done!
With Buck Eye Burl, you get what you get, it is great when some of that yellow sapwood runs through it; but each piece has its own character.
Thanks for all your comments thus far, AmosGood, better, best, never let it rest;

Amos
Closed end and the decorated top, Delightful timber, exceptionally turned, finished and presented in all its glory.
I have some of that timber looks totally different I imagine after you finish it.Anyway I hope so cause mine is uninteresting so far pale and punky. I thought of giving it a bath in CA or chucking it out.
Thanks for showing Regards Peter.

Peter! I had a couple of those light ones as well from a blank swap, they do come up nicely ,but if I did them again think I would try some BLO, to bring out the highlights a touch better, then a gloss finish, needless to say they still found new homes hehe.
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

Thanks again to all, Peter, the blank was purchased stabilized, and looks rather grey and yucky and you think, "should I bother" but they seem to come up nicely. Amos

Remarkable job, Amos. Really one of your better efforts. Did you hit the blank with BLO before CA? I've noticed that a little BLO can dramatically effect the final coloring of buckeye burl. The yellow part at the end is really a very nice accent.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.
