    Default Addiction - What addiction?

    Evening Everyone,

Yes I know I was warned. My efforts to date.IMG_0204.jpg
The five on the right are Christmas presents but I still have another 6 pen and pencil sets to go as well as 3 more pens for the family that employ me. The bolt action is for one of the bosses sons who is a mad keen pig hunter. Got a circuit board blank coming for the academic son. The brushes are here for the 3 shaving brushes to go with the wife's homemade shaving cream and by then it will be Christmas and hopefully Santa will have dropped off my first scroll chuck as reward for my efforts Had my first blank fail as I was drilling the hole today.
Even more reason for the chuck as I don't own a drill press yet.
    Cheers,
    Mac

The good thing about making pens is you get rewarded quickly for your efforts and not much material is used. I am not a fan of turning acrylic, much prefer wood.
Great little stash you have made.

Thanks Neil, glad I don't need rehab ......yet.. I too prefer wood as acrylic is a lot slower to get down to size, but the modern generation prefer the funky stuff. I need to teach them an appreciation for timber. Looking forward to tackling some bowls and grinders once I can get these Christmas orders done. Still got a whole heap of mango tree to reshape. Thanks for the compliments. I am pretty happy with what I have accomplished for a relative beginner.
    Cheers,

    Very nice.
I especially like the third from the left, where did you get the blank from?

    Hi Benny,
That one is a combination of to different coloured blanks. I cut slots at 45 degrees with the table saw. I set the height so that I leave about 3mm uncut. Then I cut a thin piece off the second blank and glue it into the slot. My blanks are about 25mm square so when you turn them you end up well below the bit of uncut blank and end up with what you see. Look up Celtic knot on YouTube and you will get an idea of the process. If you cut right through the blank it can be a pain clamping up all the bits and pieces. The wooden blanks I bought off Mapleman. The acrylics came from either Timberbits or Gary Pye. Acrylics take longer because you cannot dig in like you can with a timber blank and keeping tools sharp is the key.
    Cheers,
