Banksia nut with Sky Blue Resin Sierra not yet finished
Hey All
So in between making my sss blanks I have had a crack at making a Qld Banksia nut Sierra casted in sky blue resin. So did the following cut the nut down to size so it would fit into my blank vise. I then drilled the hole for the tube and glued it in I then trimed the ends off and placed it onto my lathe. I turned it down very carefully and left a little meat on it just enough so it would fit into the mold. Mixed up some sky blue resin and poured I they stuck it my bandsaw table to shake the air bubbles out. I turned it down and managed to fill most of the holes. So the ones that didn't fill I mixed up a small batch of the same resin and filled what I could. I then turned of the excess resin there still a couple of small hole so I filled them with saw dust and CA. So far so good it is now sitting on the lathe soaking in CA I can't wait to finish this one )

You are sooooo lucky it didn't just explode when you drilled or turned it. Hopefully your glue won't show through as you get to final size.
If you do not have a vertical round silicon mold, much easier to sand banksia to round and place in electrical tube (lose fit), placing some resin in first then topping up after placing the banksia and holding it down.

How I described it is basically how I do mine, with a round vertical silicon molds, then place into pressure pot. I then also stabilize after casting.

Hey Ian,
The ones that I showed you the other day, were done by Neil, I think we need to get you a pressure pot if you are going to go to the next step 8-).
