Beginner: needs advice on sourcing blanks NSW
Hey guys,
I’m very new to turning and absolutely obsessed! I’ve made a few pens and very slowly I’m learning the basics, plenty of trial lots of error.
I’ve found the timberbits is the best location to source the pen mechanisms, but I’m finding it difficult to source pen and bowl blanks, without costly delivery.
Can anyone point me in the direction of affordable (and forgiving) pen and small bowl blanks? I’m from the Central Coast NSW, about 90 minutes north of Sydney, I’d be willing to travel for the right materials. If anyone has any advice that would be awesome! Feel free to send me a PM
cheers in advance
Gus

Hi Gus, I've a heap of pen blanks that I can send you if you want? Just send me a prepaid bag 3 or 5kg and I'll fill it for you with a mixed bag of blanks, Sheoaks etc, all will have a nice grain pattern. PM me for my address.

Hi Gus,
I'm cleaning out the shed and I have a heap of hard maple 1"x1" pieces from bowling lane approach infill. Once I plane off the tongue & groove they are about 20 x 20mm square and about 150-180mm between nail holes. It's nice timber to turn, if a little bland visually. I use it for cutting boards, but if you just want stuff to practice on I can probably get 30 odd in a mailman 2kg satchel. You can have them for the cost of postage. I'll chuck in a couple of prettier bits I have lying around with them too.
Cheers, Robbie.Last edited by RobbieB; 25th September 2018 at 12:40 PM. Reason: spelling
