Black acrylic blanks turning transparent
Hi All
I turned some acrylic blanks with the main color being black and by the time I get to the correct dimensions I can see the brass tube like all the black die has been bleed out. I tired from 2 different sources and 4 blanks and 3 of them have go transparent. 2 of the blanks were very expensive so not happy.
I use polyurethane glue on my tubes.
No other color was effected just the black.
Does anyone know why this may have occurred?
I will post pics later.Cheers Rum Pig

Are you painting the inside of the drilled hole in the blank with black paint?

I cast my own black blanks for my wedding pens, I have to backpaint the inside of the blanks or the brass will be visible.
I could just add more black pigment when mixing, but I like a bit of depth to my blanks. I am guessing your bought ones are the same.Brad.

I can tell you that I too make my own black blanks and even the most intense powders it is a good idea to reverse paint the blank after drilling for tube.

to answer your question quickly Rum Pig They don't mix LOL the CA will disolve the paint if I use CA I insert the tubes quickly not giving it a chance to disolve the glue.

I always paint the inside of the blank when doing any dyed or Pearlex blank. I also have a full range of nail polishes, cheap chinese stuff off Ebay, to try and colour match the blank. Plus if you want true black blanks you should be using black pigment, not the dye or Pearlex as these are the problems you can have, and for really any colour but black is the worst.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
