Default How to use the whole blank - mk 1

Here is the first of several pen blanks that I got from Ian (Wicked Turning Blanks).
It was too good to waste the little bit at the end of the blank, so I have created this - I call it the Gentleman's set.
    Lots more to come.
    Questions & comments very welcome.
    Simon.

nice work on the blank and nice work on the turning

i don't mean to knit pick but as an idea, that little gold bit on the top of the cap can be removed and another little button could go in there

what you have done is great though don't get me wrong

    all the best

i am not sure, i haven't done it myself

could be 1 of 2 things that i can think of

from memory there is a little lug that holds it in place
    1. hit the lug with a transfer punch
    2. hit the lug with a drill

i think big shed - Fred did it at one stage a long time ago

have a look in the tutorials or even send fred a message, if i find it i will send you a link

    all the best

I used method 2, drilling the tab inside the finial away first and then hitting it out with a correctly sized rod.

There are some instructions on IAP by rherrel that I followed at the time for both the finial and the disassembly of the centre band

Here is a link to my first effort

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/pe...t-ii-fp-76835/

and another one with a twist

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f69/another-jr-gent-fp-red-ironbark-custom-finial-110176/

IMHO your pen would look even more special with a custom finial and it would be a fantastic set.
