    Wink More braid !

Did this today to try it out gold colored Mylor mesh I believe ,compliments of "Ernie "
the kit is a Sierra vista gold , and I deliberately turned it slightly concave to reduce the thickness in case someone with a more "petite" hand goes for Gold hehe,

this had too much shine for my amateur photography skills

Also had a play with some nice spalted timber which I have no idea of its origin

I did check the nib lol.

Not sure about the concave sierra, just looks wrong to me, but like you suggest some women may prefer it. I have 2 gold ones for Cigars ready to go

The spalted one looks to shelf Could it be some of the Monkey Ear? Looks like some with some good wood splinters amongst the rotten stuff

The spalted blank is absolutely amazing. What a great looking pen.

That gold Mylor mesh is so bright that I had to put my sun glasses on. Your going to blind everyone at the market with those. Its going to be a sure winner with the ladies, especially with the ones under 30.

    Thanks for sharing.

they both look pretty good to me but i must say that i agree with the camera on the gold one, tooooo bright for my liking

the spalted came up really good, looks like it might be some of that spalted Sassafras that i sent, maybe even spalted maple i think i sent you some of that as well, great job regardless

have you had a play with that real extreme stuff i sent as yet???

Mik it certainly could be one of yours ,been sitting around a while till I was ready to tackle it ,was going to wait for a little longer, till "Neil" was doing some more stabilising then slip it in without him noticing hehe, But he recently showed me how to stabilise with CA on some monkey ear so I had to try it lol, Not had a play with your extreme yet ,seems sometimes I don't get to play with wood for weeks . That one was almost pure white when I started and looked like the lines had been drawn in with India ink, glad it came out so well, my wife wants it, so if it doesn't sell quick it may end up in the confiscated section lol. Cheers ~ John

I think a sunglasses warning on the braid is required John. The spalted looks sweet. I must get you or Neil to give me some instruction on using the CA to stabilise the spalted woods. I've got a couple of pices of spalted poinciana that I think would come up a treat but I'm not game to touch them just yet.

    cheers

    1. Flood each side of the blank with thin CA (do on baking paper makes this easy).
    2. Drill blanks, but not all the way through
    3. Flood inside of hole with thin CA
    4. Redrill hole and epoxy in sleeve
    5. Turn down blank to within 2mm of final shape
    6. Take off lathe and flood blank again with thin CA (I hold on a silicone nozzle)
    7. Finish turning and sanding blank, then finish pen with normal CA finish.
DO NOT use accelerator with thin CA, to avoid it turning white, give it time to dry naturally (min an hour or more).

Nice work John, that gold one fas certainly got some bling to it. Like the spalted one, it won't last long.

With stabilizing you can also use Wipe on poly. just get a take away dish put the blanks in and cover with poly. they will sink when they are stabilized fully.

To save on poly rough down to size first with holes drilled the same as Neils way.

I like those mesh blanks but not sure about the gold, let me get my dark glasses ...

however, that piece of spalted wood speaks volumes to me and is marvelous and looks very very nice.
