    Default Brooks blank with Desert Iron Wood.

    Some of you may know of Jonathon Brooks, and the fantastic blanks he makes. Well this is not one of them. It's actually a blank he sent me when I won the Superbowl Pool on the IAP forum. Jonathon knows I do my own casting, so he sent me wood. My winnings were blanks from 25 people, and I ended up with over 100 new blanks.

    Part of what I decided to do with some of the winnings was to make pens for the troops. Here is one of them using a blank from Jonathon. It's Cape Fear Riverwood Pine with a centerband made from a scrap of Desert Ironwood Burl. I told my wife that it would be smart to save all my cutoffs. Although she didn't exactly agree, she did like this pen. She called is "Simple Elegance".
