Some will be difficult because of the grain and hardness and require considerable skills. But they will be worth it.

    Hi MBUMIK,

Sorry for the delay but whilst lying around in hospital for a coupla days, I decided that the pens that I send you should be a bit different.

They are all done using blanks that I bought from Mapleman over the past few years - Blackwood, Hairy Oak and Camphor Laurel for now. So had to start from scratch when I got home.

I hope to photograph them tomorrow so I would appreciate if you can PM your address to me.

The Gippsland Woodworkers Group held their annual open day last Saturday
i displayed making pens from 308 Cartridges, the tool rest was way to large so i concentrated on making the cartridge parts and didn't turn the wooden caps
On a table beside the lathe i was working on i had a group of the items that went into making the pens, an assortment of 308 Pens and a pile of the flyers which is in the attached file
a lot of people stopped to look and we chatted, they all read the flyer with many of them walking off in peoples hands
i received $40 in donations and i sold 2 Cartridge pens with all of the proceeds going to the club to buy kits for the members to make more pens for the troops
if anyone wishes to use the flyer to raise money to put into your pens for the troops fund please do so

It's been a bit quiet on this topic, so maybe a post or two might encourage a few more to send in pens for the troops. As they say, out of sight - out of mind, so any chance of an update on how it is going?

Cheers, and congratulations to MBUMIK and Simomatra for their great work in organising this project.
