May challenge - thank you gift, Beefwood
I finally managed to turn a pen that writes!! It's Beefwood with some sapwood, although not as much as I would've liked. 20 coats of CA, a non-descript $2 shop variety ( in a bottle not tube). It's a Sierra Gold Titanium
it does however look like it's mismatched to the body, but I guarantee it's just an optical illusion. I've inspected it a dozen times to make sure. I think it's Penpal who gave me the idea of the burl rest, sorry for pinching your glory.

And its resting on a bookmatched piece of Southern Silky Oak for an box I'm making at the moment.

I love the Beefwood, it a great timber for pens.
Doesnt look mismatched to me. I know what it’s like with the light reflecting off two different surfaces, it can play tricks at times.Brad.

Love beefwood. Great work on your pen. $2 CA was what I first started with long ago. Always good to stabilize soft punky wood. I am being gifted a beefwood log and a couple of boxes of pen blanks on the weekend. Keep going mate, can't wait to see what you produce next.

That's a nicely turned and presented pen Fumbler! Very nice.,
Capturing some contrasting sapwood adds contrast and interest.
Inland Beefwood is a nice wood because of its density fine texture, deep red colour and this fine rays.
(There is also a coastal beefwood, a diiferent species, with similar appearing wood, but not as dense. )
The tree is very slow growing and lives to great ages. Ive even found that it was used for fencing in the outback.
