Closed End Baron in Black with Pearl
As shown in my Pressure Pot thread, I cast a straight Black PR. Decided that it would make a nice Chrome Baron, made a closed end and added a little pearl feature to the end. Trying something different all the time, won't go stale that way.
Was very impressed with the way the black PR turned and took a polish. Decided to add one extra step to my normal acrylic finishing, after the White Diamond mop I put it back on the lathe and polished with fibreglass polish at highest speed.
Best finish I've achieved on an acrylic yet.
Also added another step to the casting process. When the blanks come out of the mould they have a sticky feel to them. This stickiness is only on the surface and doesn't affect the hardness of the blank.
To get rid of this I decided to add a post curing step. As SWMBO would take a dim view to me putting them in the kitchen oven, I purchased a little 9Ltr toaster oven from The Warehouse (on special at $30). Gave them 30 mins at 100C and got rid of the stickiness very nicely.

now that is very nice , not normally a fan of acrylics but this one is classy.
The only criticism I have is that the pearl could be set in a little bit deeperCheers

Thanks for that DJ.
I agree that the pearl could have been set a little deeper, however when I drilled the hole in the end for the pearl I found I had less meat left than I thought and actually broke through into the cavity. So had to leave the hole for the pearl slightly smaller to give me something to glue to. Know for next time to leave the blank a little longer.
Thanks Sam.
Glad you like it Jenny, so do I. As I said above, the pearl is glued (with CA)) in a hole drilled in the end of the blank.
Starting to think of all kinds of mods for closed end pens.

That's a very stylish pen. The finish you achieved is nothing short of amazing. I do not believe that you could get a better gloss than what you have obtained. The overall shape is quite pleasing to the eye and the pearl detail is exactly what it needed to break up the expanse of black. You are turning me into a fan of closed end pens!
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Great looking pen Fred.
I love the black blank and great little changes you have made to the pen. Hope that I can produce blanks like this.
