Out of the closet!!!
Hi, My names Kim and I'm a Penoholic...
Seriously, been floating around here a while and not shown or said much but the last few weeks have changed the course of my pens forever.
I have been making pens for couple of years and just giving as gifts and selling to family. Our local town of Nhill was planned to have a "Back to Nhill" to celebrate 125 years of something... I was approached by a Local Lady who was getting together a collection of art pieces to have in a studio style shop. Was pretty nervous but said I would love to take part. Plus it gave me the oppotunity to do some high end kits that I have had no cause to do prior. The store was open for 8 days and six hours a day.
Sorry for no photo's but I don't have the know how to put them up. I had all different styles and colors rangeing from Majestic's in Thuya Burl and Truestone to Snake skin, Circut board, BOW on fishers of men sierra's, corn cobs, bullet pens with antler and lots of bright sparkly acrylics for the girls. I showed 24 pens in total and would have been happy to sell a couple but to my amazement, I only got to bring ten of them home. Also have to make some copies of four that were in high demand.
A lot of credit goes to my wife as she is the one that has the taste in our relationship as I am not too good at seeing what will sell and what people won't like. Also I tend to sell myself short on pricing and took the plunge and priced and extra 40% on top of what I thought I should be charging. I guess people are much happier paying for quality than I give credit for.
Again I appoligise for no photo's. They are on the camera but have trouble uploading them.
Thanks for reading and all input is greatly appreciated.
Kim

Hey Kim,
Don't be scared about Pics, I have found that if you e-mail the pics to yourself, the puter asks you if you want to make the pics smaller so you can send them, just say yes and them save them in a seperate folder (Forum Pics) then when you do a post, to attach them, you upload them from that file, easy as (Portion of Urine) works for me. we all like looking at other peoples pens.
Good Luck with your celebration for 125 years of something.

Congrats, you did well.
Don't be surprised if you get some follow on sales from those who purchased. Word of mouth seems to be a great seller.
Better get in the shed and start replacing them

Well there you go ! hehe that wasn't so bad now was it , good on you for having a go , I am sure there are a lot of worthy pen turners in exactly the same position as yourself ,quietly going a long enjoying the experience of creation ,and giving pleasure to their friends and relatives with their output .Selling and pricing has to be an individual thing, been lots of discussion on the forums about this subject,in the end you have to feel comfortable with what you do and what market you are aiming at ,just don't sell below your costs as you will just go backwards that way hehe, photo's are also another thing that does not come naturally to all, My photography is basic, take picture crop and reduce size then post on a free photo hosting site such as THIS . You will then get a link you can post to forums or emails etc. Cheers ~ John
G'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!
