Cracking pen parts(when assembled)
Hey, I'm new to pen turning and have had a minor problem with the wood cracking when I try to put in the slimline twist mechanism.
Some timbers don't seem to have a problem. It's only a minor crack from the twist mechanism going in and expanding the brass tube. So I was wondering if this was a temperature problem(mechanism is warmer so its expanded more than usual)? If I was to freeze the mechanism or put it on ice would it solve the problem?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Some glue left inside the tube is the most common reason for the cracking. Other causes can be metal burrs on the end of the tube from squaring; or mis-aligning the parts when pressing together.
Pressing the parts together vertically helps to see the alignment better than if the pen is on its side when assembled.Brad, HardingPens.ca

As Brad has said, it is VERY important to remove any tiny specks of glue from the inner ends of the brass tubes before pressing parts together. I use a countersink bit inserted into a 6" piece of broom stick to de-burr and put a small bevel in the ends of the tube. This also helps with some glue removal as well as helps to guide the pressed in parts squarly into the brass tube. Just place the cutting edge of the tool up against the tube hole and twist it a few times. EASY !

Your problem might be that the end of the blank is not squared off after the CA goes on and therefore the pen parts are not touching the tube squarely. Any overhand or higher side on the tube will split the timber as you put too much pressure on to tr and get it fitted properly. Also if it don't have the pen part centred with the tube the angle it goes in at might spread the tub enough to split the timber. Maybe a photo might help
