Very difficult to get a true representation in the photos, this stuff changes so much as you turn it in the light.
The blank has darkened some after putting the CA on, but its definitely not from the colour bleeding. Sealing with the spray has resulted in a crisper definition in the grain, I will continue to do my Pennyleaf pens in this way.

An excellent outcome Ironwood ie learning and showing how finishing can be improved to retain beauty of such dark oily but beautiful woods.
Well done and thanks for sharing your findings.

Thanks for the link, I have caught up now. Is there a particular type or brand of lacquer you use to seal the blank?

I just borrowed a can from my wife that she uses for her crafty stuff. She would have got it from Bunnings.
Just went and checked, it’s White Knight crystal clear, but I am sure any spray can lacquer will do the job.

I did think my eyes were deceiving me with my beefwood pen, but seeing this says that the band before the nib shaft is actually narrower than the rest of it, so in essence it gives the visual appearance of having a step, phew.

very nice by the way. I love sierras, just wish that band matched the size.
