    Default Dang Bowl turners

    they'll use anything.

I recently found the reason I needed a plank of 2" cocobolo. Being somewhat cost prohibitive to run about buying $20 a bf cocobolo, I had waited until I found what I needed said boards for before I bought them. It seemed like a good plan at the time.

I arrived, went to the back where the 2" cocobolo had been stored forever...and it was gone.

So says I to the clerk, ye gads man, what have you done? I need 2" cocobolo and you've scrapped the lot of it? He said, well, erm, I think so, I hardly remember but I think we clearanced the lot out. I guess it never sold. It struck me as odd, as much as I'm in there, you would have thought I'd have been around when they moved it all out, and I'm not one to miss a stack of Cocobolo lumber with a Clearance sign on it.

So this afternoon I was up there, I was bored, in case my experimenting with alternate substances such as sunflower stalk hasn't already indicated, and so I was looking for something special. I wanted to get some Bocote but what they had wasn't impressive, unfortunately they just got a load in so it will probably be many months before they have another selection.

I did find some 1" cocobolo that I am really fighting myself over, I really want it (once again, you would think I would have learned my lesson here and grabbed it up, but it's about 6 bf, which isn't the main problem, the problem is as follows). The problem is, that they are matched pieces. Now they don't know they are matched pieces, it's just as I was going through their entire stock of (yes I know I have it bad ) anyhow, as I was going though the entire rack of cocobolo looking for that perfect piece, I started noticing that I kept seeing a similar piece. So I said, this is odd, and went back though and pulled all the similar pieces out. And laid them on a nearby cart. And said, Oooo, these are cut from the same piece, ie matches pieces.

And finally, the real problem. What am I going to do with three matching pieces of cocobolo? The answer is I'd stick them on a rack and leave them there while I dreamed up the perfect use. I'd die and they'd still be there. So I tucked them in at the back of the pile and left them there, but today they were calling my name again, they were still there.

Anyhow, to get back on track, I was in the bowl blank section, looking for something that called my name, when these little chunks of cocobolo said, HEY, I know you, you used to look at us and try to figure out what you needed a 2" plank of Cocobolo for.

I squinted a bit and looked at them funny and said, you're no 2" plank of Cocobolo though mate, so what ya talking about?

Thats' when I realized, the little bowl blanks were my planks, they hadn't been selling, so they CHOPPED THEM INTO BOWL BLANKS.
    Wood. Such a wonderful substance.

Heh heh .. I wait till they 'clearance' them because the bowl blanks are too
expensive. Then I buy them up and take them to the band saw and make pen
blanks. In fact, I just sent some to DJ, (oh, DJ? expect mail..)
