Thread: Danish Oil under CA

Pariss, I think it should be OK, as long as there is not too much oil, you could try Shellawax Glow, I know that will allow CA over it. Amos

Finally got a break in the rain, to snap a few pics. So, Spring Blossom dressed in Rock Maple (all from Timberbits). Danish oil under 20 coats of thin CA. The Chat-0whatever is hard to see in the photo's, but the timber looks 3D. Cheers guys.

That's one of the nicest pieces of rock maple I have seen Pariss. The oil certainly brought out the grain as normally you only see it under a microscope. Very well done and beautifully finished.

Whenever I put a finish on top of a piece of timber that has to have its grain poped I use Boiled Linseed oil and not BLO. Why because BLO has a polyurethane in it and alot of finishes do not adhere to poly. I do not like to take the chance of peeling off at a later date. With Boiled linseed oil there is just the oil and no poly and thus the oil drys faster.

The pens do look good and I am sure they look better in person and the depth can be appreciated more. Thanks for showing.

Thanks fellers for the comments. Hey JT, BLO is Boiled Linseed Oil, but I understand what you mean . It's fun to experiment anyway. I was going to use some shellac I had mixed up a couple of months ago, but the damn stuff had gone off in the jar. Hard as orange glass ha ha.

Boy I just reread what I wrote and yes I meant Danish oil. Boy I am glad someone knew what I wanted to say. It so funny because the topic of using blo and CA just came up on another forum and I was answering to that one too and got all mixed up. I need a drink now. Anyway what is for sure, very nice pen.
