New display case for pens
I was told by management that I needed to make something better than the usual case to display my pens.
Some time ago I had purchased 10 Blackwood (Acacia Melanoxylon) slabs from Kallista in the Dandenongs and at one of the Melbourne Pen Shows I had purchased some drawer inserts.
So I set out to design something that would meet with management approval using these two materials.
I came up with a design that stores 100 pens in 10 drawers the top 20 pens being visible through glass.
The final result was approved by management and is now on display in our lounge room.

Wow that's great.
You have 100 pens to display, now I know I am in trouble as I only have 4.

Fred you are a bloody legend, that display box is stunning, if the management in this joint seen that I would be sent to the shed and told not to come back till I had one like that (she hates my display boxes). Awesome job mate.

Very nice. Very, very nice. Much better than my ratty old carry cases & shallow 'lexan & silicone fish tanks.'
I'd be a tad concerned about the recesses for the glass being dust-collectors, but if management approves...
Where'd you source the flock pen trays? I assume they're flock and that you didn't make them yourself?

Yes, they are flock on vacuum formed plastic trays. I purchased them at the first Melbourne Pen Show (2010 I think). One of the companies importing pens (Omas from memory) were selling these and I bought all they had left, about 15 from memory.
I have never seen them sold here in Oz apart from that time, but funnily enough I followed a link on one of the pen forums (as you do) and further browsing on that site showed this company was selling these as well.

Arthur, those photos were taken in my light tent and are a little on the light side because of that, here is one taken at ambient daylight and it is a little on the dark side, so somewhere in the middle.
I don't know how our "Mexican" Acacia Melanoxylon would compare to your northern variety?

Thanks Fred!!
There is some difference between various areas but even allowing a little extra darkness
on your original photo I have never seen any Blackwood so light in colour.
I have some here from a tree removed from the school I taught at in Woodridge and it is
quite dark. I also have pieces from Tas. that are almost as dark. Just might be that funny
"Mexican " climate.
