Thread: Don't you just love the pen kit manufaturers?

A pain for sure. When I buy kits from timberbits and looking at a specific kit I can see down the bottom of the page it lists the drill bits I need for ghe kit. I just add it in my order. Ive also got a list of the weird sizes I already know I own so I try not to double up

Put a new door on the bedroom last week. Went to install the door knob. Required a particular size drill bit. Off the Bunnings and every other hardware store nearby. Don't make that size bit. Had to go under size and file it up to size.

I dont even look at the sizes anymore, once bitten twice shy. I measure every individual tube with verniers and then find a drill bit the required size using the same verniers.
I leave the commonly used sizes on the bench beside the drill press, but sometimes have to look further for an odd size.

If I rounded up all my drill bits I reckon I would go close to filling 2 X 20 liter buckets with them .

Yes Brad, I too have several million dollars worth of bits!!!

It is nearly impossible to get the right drill size for some kits - either too big or too small. I opt for the small bit and then open up the hold to the desired size with a round timber or metal file. Takes a bit longer but you end up with the right size hole.

The other annoying thing I have found lately is that the ring on some pen clips is too small for the cap. This means having to file it out. It is a pain as they should be made to the right size to start with.
