Cast a few sheoak and tea tree blanks on Friday, turned this one up yesterday and finished it today.

    Beautiful result

Question - are the pods impregnated with a orange resin before casting in the black, or is that just the actual seeds still in the pods?

Neil, the pods were impregnated first, I got as much resin into the openings as I could by dunking in red and helped by using a small brush to push it in, let it gel very slightly before casting with the black. I got rid of as many seeds as I could by dehydrating as they were unopened when I collected them.

Thanks, that explains it, far more work involved but obviously worth it

Troy do you want some of these pods? The large ones are only on the one small tree near where I am but can get you some. Plenty of the smaller black oak pods out here also if not a local species there. cheers, Des
