Well Well Well I took the bait Troy if you need some she oak pods i have some i can send you i also have some from Harry Buttler from WA so they are a little different but they never go astray and those pods you have used there Des certainly look a little different to mine. i must get out and turn up what i have already cast but after talking to Harry I think i should stabelize them first because it sound like he had a few problems doing the ones i sent him.

    cheers Ian

It did read like you were trying to get a rise out of Ian Troy but just thought I would check. Here's a pic of a couple of the species I have access to so if you want some Ian just let me know, cheers, Des.

thanks Des i will take you up on the offer soon and it's the big ones that you have there that I think will be something to try because like you may have seen with some of the stuff I have cast it all seems to be the smaller type so i think the big ones should go great. i am heading on holidays soon to Bali so I will give you a yell when I get back and hope they are still around. i don't get back till end of june and leave in about 2 weeks

    Cheers Ian

I was lucky eought to see the real pen yesterday it and the other handful of the castings that Des has done are a beautiful thing of art. Well done

    Hey Des,

I am willing to do a comparison, if you have a spare ,
Ian (Dorno) did a great job on the pods I sent him, just needed a bit of work at the final finish stage, Neil (Dai Sensi) gave me a tip, mainly for Banksia pods, but should work here as well, once you drill the blank, flood the hole with CA and let it dry before gluing the tube in, helps hold the insides together, that was the main drama I had with my first Sheoak Pods,

Ian I collected a heap more and have given them the dehydrator treatment to open them and shed the seeds so just give me a yell when you return.

Hazza It was a post from Neil that I first saw the tip about soaking the inside of suspect blanks before gluing. The info picked up on these forums from the first pen I ever made has been invaluable. Saved me a lot of time and dollars for sure.

Robert I use polyester clear casting resin from AMCS.

Thanks Trevor, hope all goes well next week, cheers, Des

    Fantastic looking pen

there is a tree just up the road from me that throws these little pods all over the place, might just have to collect a few and see what happens

thanks for the explanation on your technique as well

    all the best
