    Default Dyed maple cigar

Dyed maple crotch saved from the fireplace. Dyed with red mahogany aniline dye. Ti gold cigar many coats of CA. Well over 20 on the barrel, put on a few sand down and gradually filled up the 3 worm holes.

Dyed it after turning just before applying CA. Used dyes dissolved in alcohol so the grain didn't get raised so no more sanding was needed.

Rick I like it you did very well, I think if you had put some ebony shavings in the worm holes, or some gold or green glitter, it would have been easier to fill and given a little extra feauture. Amos

I thought about that Amos but in this case the holes were just 3 small round holes and because I was going to dye the wood I couldn't put any CA on before the dye and wouldn't be able to sand after the dye so I went this route. It wasn't to bad just time consuming. I would put on a layer of medium CA and go do something else for 15 minutes or half hour while it hardened. After 4 layers I would sand lightly with 600 grit and start again. Only took a day and a half to get the holes built up. In the end it turned out to be one of my best CA finishes.

That's very nice, Rick. I'm glad you rescued that from burning! One little trick I sometimes do to fill small holes is to use the fine sawdust that has accumulated on the bed of my lathe to fill the small imperfections. That way the timber matches.
