Default East Timor Ebony Sedona Rollerball

    Hi everyone,
    A few things:
    a) my latest efforts include a Sedona rollerball made from recycled ebony from east timor that was salvaged from the tip during reconstruction works. The pen is a delight to use. It was finished using Rustins plastic coat and buffed to a high gloss.

    b) I have noticed that after some weeks and months, many of my finished pends develop small cracks/fractures. These have the habit of travelling and become really annoying. Most of the cracks first develop at the ends and chase the grain, but some of my burls with curly grain will develop a different crack structure. Has anyone else had this experience? Better yet, worked out how to avoid it?

    c) I have started using Faber Castell refills in my rollerballs - they are a complete delight to use and can recommend them over the stock ink that comes in the kit.

    Cheers & merry christmas all

    Thumbs up

    Nice looking pen Sire.

You might try sealing the end grain with CA.

    Nice looking pen
sorry can't help with the cracking - maybe the timber is not fully dry. I've had similar problems with a couple which live in airconditioning.

Nice pen, well done. Can't help about the cracking other than what's already been said.

Nice pen. Sorry I can't help with your cracking problem; but I have to agree with you about the refills, most of the ones that come with the kits deserve to be flushed.

Nice find in the Dump Shane and a lovely pen.

Ebony and burls are renowned for cracking, I now use WOP to stabilize them, its also a good way to use up left over poly.
