    Default Fancy!

    Hi all,

Thought I'd share a pen finished today in amongst working on some bowls:

A David Broadwell art deco rollerball in my own casting (copper and black perlex). Only minor disappointment is I probably put too much black epoxy in there, and the black perlex is a bit blah next to the copper.

The kit is a bit more expensive than I normally use (ordered a batch of kits from exoticblanks.com and I couldn't resist throwing a couple of these in), so I have no idea what I'm going to do with it... But it's pretty!

    Cheers,

    Danny

I have never really taken to the look of those kits, looks like there is too much metal showing for my liking. But, then again, I have never seen one in person, let alone make one.
Having said that, your blank looks good against the bling of the kit.

Yeah, it's certainly not to everyone's taste, another reason that makes me wonder if I will ever find someone to take it off my hands!

You never know, I had one super blingy pen that sat in my display for about 12 months, a woman came along one day, she loved it and just had to have it. So I think you will find someone to buy that one, you just have to wait for them to come along.

Great looking pen To be honest I thought it was some burl with cracks filled with black

Black is a pain with resins as it can spread quickly and very strong

Yeah, I only recently have started playing with black resin - very tricky, takes over everything, and to make matters worse, any small scratches on the finished item stand out big time!

Cast a few more blanks on the weekend using silver perlex with a smidgen of black added to turn it very dark, but hopefully still with some texture showing instead of flat black - using it as highlights (lowlights?) in blanks that are primarily another colour. Very curious to see if that worked better...

I have had good luck with the black by adding a bit of pearl ( maybe called micropearl ) gives it some depth and texture.

I think the bit of black in is an added feature that makes the pen distinctive in it's own way ,it has an appeal that will certainly draw someones attention & like.
If you look at timber with it's gum pockets if to emulate that then is what I see.

Everyone's tastes vary, luckily for me, my wife likes Art Deco and silver, hence

Yes it is different and yes it is more expensive than the normal kits, but it is difference that attracts the more discerning client.

Edit: I must not have held my tongue in the correct fashion, pics originally appeared in the preview, but some gremlin happened. Thanks Fred for the quick fix and Neil for the pm. Someone has to sleep occasionally

Have re-uploaded them, even though I could see the original uploads once I clicked on them.

These kits are growing on me! This one is polyurethane resin (I bought it by accident!) and the black Ti version:

Only one kit left in my stash, might make it a fancy wood pen after these two in resin.

    Cheers,

    Danny
