    Default Finish problem.

Did a brace of pens over the last few days to take overseas as gifts. All finished with CA and all have come up very well,
except for the Purple Gidgee. I gave it a few coats yesterday and intended to finish it today. Seems as if some of today's
CA does not wan to take.

    All suggestions appreciated.

    Ta, Arthur.

Is yesterday's peeling off, or today's not sticking to yesterday's?

If yesterday's peeling off, perhaps wood was not dry, but usually CA sticks even to wet wood. If today's not sticking to yesterday's, I have no idea, unless you polished it with wax maybe

If nothing has been applied after you put the last coat of CA on then lightly sand with the finest grit and then try to reapply. If that does not work then sand back to bare wood and start again completing the finish in one go.

    Thumbs up

Thanks fellas!! Did not do anything between putting a few coats on yesterday and restarting today.

I have had the timber for about ten years and it is well and truly seasoned.

Will sand back tomorrow and try again.

Sometimes the woods are slightly oily and the CA does not stick too well ,old CA can cause a problems as well as weather conditions (high humidity etc) after sanding I usually clean with metho or similar just before applying CA ,thin CA to start and get a bond ,then apply more as you would normally ,do not spray thin CA at all let it dry by itself ,medium and thick is ok to spray and wont go white on you Still one of the "Dark arts" this CA and can be very stubborn to get it right at times ,you'll get there I'm sure cheers~John
