How do folks display pens
Just wondering how others display pens.
I have added pens to my burl bowls that I will be selling at the market and quickly knocked up a stand to display a few of the pens. At first I loved it but the more I look at it the more I think it "aint quite right" but I cant put my finger on it.
Any suggestions???prove how bored u really are, ..... visit....... http://burlsburlsburls.freespaces.com/ my humble website

I did try a couple of 'knock up' displays, and found that for $20, you can order a real gooden from Carrolls .. or if you have a few pens, the $40 one is great value. The $20 one boasts 6 pens, but if they are slimline, you can get 12 in there .. the $40 one holds 48, and both look very good indeed.
Thats my 2 cents worth anyway.
Rich.
PS .. Your stand is fine .. just think maybe better in black ? ? ?..... Rich

I have the 48 pen holder skew showed.. Looks awesome when your filling it up with alot of pens, espically when you have different styles/shapes/woods all together

I suspect black may be a better background than the green. Might make it look a little "classier" for lack of a better word... Looks good all the same though.

I too have the $40 option, but I also still have my home made version. Made from a simple plastic container with 2 layers of cardboard covered with felt and elastic threaded through. On display I just take one of the layers out and put it in the lid.

My son asked me to build 'something' for his growing collections of pens - so a four tier shaddow box developed from 6"x3/4" pine, a part sheet of 3-ply and a length of 1/2 round beading, and a bit of good wood glue.
The box interior is painted matte black, the pen rests (beading) matte grey, and the outer box gloss mahogany. The matte finish shows-off the sheen of the pens, it can display 84 pens.
Now although it's me saying so it is definitely a bench-top furniture item much discussed by visitors.
My son has since suggested some sort of stand would be nice - I suggested he make one. I'm delaying till I get my lathe in a couple of weeks to turn something unique as a surprise for him, and I'm also considering a curved triangular display box on a stand allowing the pens to be rotated.

For sales purposes, where the pens' are under constantly under yer eye (eg. market stalls) a lazy susan type setup works OK and is easy to knock together.

Definately go with a neutral colour when displaying anything. Otherwise it can take away from the craftsmanship you put into the pens. Black, white, light grey would all do.
