    Default My Turn To Gloat

    Well

    I scored a nice stash of Olive Wood today and when I got home just had to see if it was the same as my last lot I got.............which it is not my last lot was just plain light wood but this lot looks the goods now that is all that is left to do is cut it all up and dry it out (thanks Brad for the tips)

    This will make u drawl a little turners prono pmsl

    Nice score Ian. Looks like a fair amount of spaulting happening in the timber too. Now the LONG wait till it's dried out enough to turn.

    Thanks mate yer but it will be worth it in the end. I think there maybe a couple of smaller pieces that might be dry but will see when I cut it all up for drying ;-)

    time to find that old working microwave Ian slice it up and speed things up the sooner it turnable the better.

    Ian, I have had great success with Olive wood g dried up in my roof. Since my last drying we have had a fan fitted up in the roof that cycles in when the roof temperature exceeds 17 degrees now after our heavy frost even around 10 am for some hours the temp in the house gets to 18 degrees through a Hep filter and 7 inlets in the house proving even in the winter there is a lot of heat to make use of especially for pen blanks. Some Olive amongst these. RHS second Pic

    If all you are after is pen blanks, cut it into slabs 25mm thick ASAP to dry

    Hey Neil thanks mate will do just wait on blades for the bandsaw wanna cut some bigger blanks aswell like bottle Stoppers and bowls

    Touch against your face, you can usually feel the moisture, but otherwise use a moisture meter

    Thanks mate lol no snake skins on these ones P. Lol mate I bet u would ;-) nah I didn't but Sierra and Aurora are both pens lol my wife liked the name Sierra and as soon as she said it my first response was she is gonna make a one of a kind pen lol
