    Default Gone batty

The family reckon I've been that way for years, and now I've proved it. I said this project was challenging, and for once I was right! The challenging bits were that the tubes didn't fit onto my home made mandrel (well they did after I removed the retaining clips packed inside the tubes for shipping), and that the tubes were 6mm outside and the smaller bushes were just 7.2mm. With my shaky hands that meant just 0.6mm of timber around the tube (and NO spare tubes are available from that supplier). I knew I would need extra tubes, so bought some 6mm OD tube with allegedly .45mm wall thickness. An actual wall thickness of .65 added to the dramas as it was useless -- thank God for Superglue and sawdust to salvage all but one! But it's all over and they're ready for my son and grandson's baseball team. And in the future I will stick to pens and bowls!

Thanks for the compliments . Forgot to mention that the finish was EEE and then a couple of coats of Shellawax Glow. I realise that this finish is not as durable as CA or spray lacquer, but most will probably sit on a shelf with their baseball trophies, match balls, etc. The timbers were Mango, Coolibah Burl and Claret Ash (with the second from left being New Guinea Rosewood). To answer Bdar's question, the kits were direct from Xiamen Rizheng in China where i buy some of my bits and pieces. But beware, they do not stock spare tubes for the baseball bats - I wanted about 10, but their minimum order quantity is 1,000 !!! Guess why I went without.

    Cheers, Gary H

Great job you have done there. It's always a challenge when you have to make multiples and try to make them all look the same. I like jobs where there is only one or two and they don't stay together afterwards for comparison.
