I am confused this is a temporary press? looks pretty good from here, check with David on glue he used to use CA but I use poly glues they are slower acting but require caution cause they foam a little while setting.
Wish you every success in your turning career.
Kind regards Peter.

Hehe ! After all your waiting and expectation, your first pen will almost be like a "new Baby" lol. With glues the general consensus is that 2 part epoxy is the best all round ,glueups are the basis of a good pen whatever the material ,remember to give your tubes a"rough up " with a bit of course emery to give a basis for the glue to grab on to . Slow your speeds down for sanding as you don't want heat buildup, and your sandpaper will cut better and last longer When it comes to assembly just push the transmission in to the brass section then put in the refill and twist it out to check how much you need to go to get the right length , it is much easier to go a little more than try and push the mechanism back out .(don't forget to take out the refill before trying to push it in a bit more )
( Peter ! I think the drill vise was the tempory item that was mentioned ) Cheers ~ John ,and have fun most of allG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!

I use to use CA and it does the job quite well but I now use 5 minute epoxy resin glue from the $2 shop and I have found that to be excellent and it dries very quickly. CA does the job but is a bit fumy and I hate it when my fingers get glued together. Good luck and look forward to seeing your first pen.

I use medium CA if I'm in a hurry, or Polyurathane if I'm willing to wait a while (at least 4 hours but preferably overnight). Have also had success with 5 min & 24 hour Araldyte. Don't get the Polyurathane on your skin though, it makes the skin it touches go black for a few days
Welcome to the addiction

Regarding the pen press, If I had a choice of a pen press or a pen vice to start off with, I would choose to have the vice; There are several ways you can manage to press in the bits and pieces but bit trickier to keep those blanks totally vertical to drill unless using a lathe of course.
another little tip it to smear the end of the transmission with just a tad of grease and it helps the transmission press in that much easier. This goes for the other parts you need to press in too. Don't forget to clean out the inside of the tubes after gluing them in place by running the pen mill down the tube, this will remove any glue that may have gotten inside the tubes when gluing them in place.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John

There is not pen like your first pen so do not give it away.
I use Polly glue because it seems to work and there is no mixing.
Good luck and post pics when you are doneCheers Rum Pig

Looks like you have made good use of your time while incapacitated and got yourself ready to go as soon as you got the word. I understand the excitement when you first get all your bits and pieces and are ready to go.
I tend to use medium CA for gluing in tubes that are a neat fit in the drilled hole, and any that are a bit loose I use 5 min Araldite. I have not had any fail to this point.
Take it easy and enjoy the fun. Sorry to say, but your life will never be the same again after your first pen.Dallas
