Thread: Gorilla Glue

I use polyurethane for timber pens. Have just started using gorilla (still a polyurethane but wanted to see if there is a difference with the brand name stuff)
I use aryldite for hybrid blanks.

I haven't had a blowout (from glue error) since switching a few years ago

I normally use medium CA to glue the tubes in after giving the outside of the tube a good scuff up with 120 grit sandpaper. The medium helps to fill voids where as the thin tends to just soak in to the wood so any gaps will just stay there. I use it on both Acrylic and wood and haven't had any dramas with it. I do put a coat on the inside of the blank as well as the outside of the tube to reduce the chance of the voids. Sometimes I will use 5 minute Araldite to glue up the more expensive kits "just in case".

I use araldite two part epoxy and like it much more than CA. Haven't tried a polyurethane, but the extra step to keep foam out of the tube puts me off!

I know you said you didn't want to mix any two part glues, but it's super easy if you buy the slow-setting araldite in a syringe. Just squeeze yourself out some glue and re-cap the syringe, mix with whatever brush you were going to use anyway, and away you go!

I use gorilla glue for all my wooden blanks, epoxy for everything else.

Sand the outside of the tube, wipe with lacquer thinner and plug the ends of the tube with a ball of tissue. Run a bead of glue down the outside of the tube, then twist it into the blank.

I have had a couple of tubes push out when the glue foams, so I clamp a block over the end of the tubes.

I use Gorilla Poly with huge success. I aways wrap a rubber band end to end just to be sure to be sure,had one move drying one time. Use gloves it stains and sticks. I use a slice of potato to make a plug in one end and pop it out after glueing straight after.
